Crown edge back to top

Phnom Penh Crown went back to the top of the Metfone C-League this afternoon with a 1-0 victory over 3rd-placed National Defense, but they had to eke out the win and the match will certainly not go down as one of the classic encounters. The all important winning goal came courtesy of Kouch Sokumpheak just eight minutes from time, when he had all the time in the world to turn a short pass from Chan Chaya past his former national teammate Sou Yaty in the Army goal. It was just about merited as Crown had provided all the attacking intent in the 2nd half as Army sat back and looked for a share of the spoils. Sokumpheak had other ideas. The win takes Crown back to the top of the C-League table ahead of their mini-break for the Singapore Cup. They are 1 point ahead of Naga Corp who they meet in a mouth-watering clash on Monday 20 June, two days after their return from Singapore. In the first game of the afternoon, Preah Khan Reach were fortunate to inflict a 2-1 defeat on BBU, with the winning goal coming from a Chea Samnang header just 3 minutes from the end. A draw would've been a fair result after Nhim Sovannara gifted PKR an own goal early on with Pech Sina equalizing just before the interval. More from both games later.
