My shot at the 30

Hok Sochetra (right) with assistant coach Meas Channa
I wondered if the new Cambodian national coach, Hok Sochetra, might need the heads-up about who to include in his first squad of players for the AFF Suzuki Cup qualifiers that are coming up in early October. He's already indicated that he will put out a list of possibles by the end of this week, with a view to getting them together as often as he can during the next three months. Having just spent the last few months working with the U-22 national squad, I'm sure he will already have a batch of those players in mind to form a youthful backbone to his new senior squad, adding a number of experienced older and wiser heads to steady the ship. Here's my suggested squad of thirty players that the new coach might just consider calling up for his first training session sometime soon. Let me know if you agree or want to put other names in the frame.
Goalkeepers: Sou Yaty, Um Vichet (both Army), Sar Sophea (PKR), Peng Bunchhay (Boeung Ket).
Defenders: Lay Raksmey, Moul Daravorn, Nen Sothearoth (PKR), Pheak Rady, Sok Sovan, Tieng Tiny (PPCFC), Touch Pancharong, Khiev Vibol (Boeung Ket), Say Piseth (Nat Police).
Midfielders: Chhun Sothearoth (BBU), Suon Veasna, Chan Vathanaka (PKR), Sos Suhana (PPCFC), Sun Sopanha, Sun Sovannrithy (Naga), Tith Dina (Nat Police), Um Kumpheak (Boeung Ket), Pov Phearith (Army).
Forwards: Chuon Chum, Kop Isa (Naga), Kouch Sokumpheak, Khim Borey (PPCFC), Khuon Laboravy (PKR), Keo Sokngorn (Boeung Ket), Phourng Soksana, Chhin Chhoeun (Army).

Good selection, Andy. I highly appreciate if you could send the list and contribute with some advices/recommendation to the new coach, then I think the national team would come up with better outcome. So, please.

90% of the players are the same as my selection. I think Hok Sochetra will add more PKR in the list like Tum Saray (not good enough) ...

Sovath, I considered Tum Saray but he hasn't been as effective this season as he was last term, the same goes for Chan Chaya, Teab Vathanak and others.

Cambodia should call up some of the players in Europe and America, like Chhunly Pagenburg and Davy Armstrong to see if they are good enough to make the national team.

I understand some of the overseas players will be coming with the French-Khmer team and if they are good enough, will be invited to test out, though they will be here in mid-Sept and that's less than a week or two before the Suzuki Cup matches begin. So that's not really viable as a selection policy.

Chammy, I took into account the form of the 3 you mention and again, didn't feel that they would be better than the ones I've selected for my 30-strong squad.

Where is Sok Rithy? Unless there is happened to him he should be an automatic pick given his performance last 2 years including during the Mekong U21 cup where he was outstanding. I know he doesn't have the technique but very effective. And how about Neang Chenla at left back? He has recently turned out for the U21 side though I highly doubt he belongs to that age group.

Vichet,
There are two Preah Khan Reach players who would come into real contention but are currently injured and likely to miss most of the rest of this season. They are defender Sok Rithy (foot operation) and winger Prak Mony Udom (broken leg). I don't know if they can get fit again before the Suzuki Cup, so at this time I have left them out of the squad.

i know Peng Bunchhay and Sou Yaty are good GK but do u think Samreth Seiha is among them?could he make his first debut for the national team? He is an experient GK in suzuki cup 2008.from Seyla

Anon 6:17AM: I believe Samrith Seiha can become the best keeper in the country again, once he has got back to tip-top condition. However he needs games and more games to get back his confidence, sharpness and agility, so I think the Suzuki Cup squad is not possible. He simply hasn't played enough matches yet. Next season will be a better time to judge.

If some Cambodian players in abroad has high or enough capacity, can we bring them to Cambodian squad for Suzuki Cup 2012?
