What was seen as a potential test for the
Phnom Penh Crown Academy boys turned out to be a rout against the Festival U-13 champions from Kompong Chhnang this morning. The youngsters from the Cambodia Foundation Organization that triumphed in last week's Festival of Football for U-13s were simply no match for the passing ability of the Crown Academy, who took charge of the game early on and never released their grip. The final score of 13-1 was kind to the visitors, with the Academy boys missing as many as they scored. Mat Sakrovy netted the first after three minutes, added a second ten minutes later before Ken Chansopheak and Orn Chanpolin with a long range effort doubled the score. Two goals near half-time, both great efforts from Pov Ponvuthy, gave the Academy a clear 6-0 lead at the interval. Coach Bouy Dary rang the changes at the interval and Long Phearath, who was in goal for the 1st half, stepped up as striker and scored two goals within five minutes of the restart. His reward for the two goals was to be dropped into defence. Vat Samnang scored a stunning 20 yard free-kick, before Phoeun Sopheak moved up from defence to score the first of a notable hat-trick, displaying neat ball control and a cool finish way beyond his years. Theang Chhaya, the game's smallest player, raced through to score before the visitors got their consolation goal from a well-directed free-kick. Sopheak completed his hat-trick with another solo effort as the referee brought the one-sided game to a close and the Academy recorded a memorable 13-1 victory. It was essentially a masterclass in youth football and impressed the watching Andy Smith, the managing director of Crown's Academy partners, the Asia Pacific Football Academy, who'd come to Cambodia from New Zealand to assess the progress being made by the Academy boys.

Kinda no surprise, is it? The crown boys train professionally. I doubt the Kompong Chhnang team has the training regiment of the same caliber. Plus, the Crown youth team is selected after try-outs of some of the best young football players across the country.
They are the future of Cambodia football stars. I am sick of the performance of national team, but very delight with the performance of Phnom Penh Crown Academy boys. Thumbs up!!!
Anon 4.13PM. It wasn't a surprise to anyone that has seen the PPCFC Academy team play before. However, it was a big shock to the U-13 champions, who hadn't. I would venture to say that in their age group there is no team that could get within spitting distance of the PPCFC Academy at this time. Even though the Academy team have only been together for the past six months.
After the match against the Kompong Chhnang team, the U-13s then took on the Crown U-16s and drew 3-3.

Andy, did the U13 draw 3-3 with Crown U16? That was just amazing result. They should represent Cambodian team for International play!
Anon 11.54PM. Yes, the Academy U-13 team played the Crown U-16s after they completed the earlier match. As most players only played 35 minutes against Kompong Chhnang, the Crown coach gave them more game time against the Crown U-16s. The final score was 3-3, and another good display from the Academy youngsters.

Update: I didn't stay for the U-13 v U-16s games on Saturday and only just heard that in fact there were 2 matches. The first was a 2-2 draw; the 2nd was a 3-2 victory for the U-13's against their much older club colleagues. All in all a great day for the Academy boys.
