Damp squib

Sunday's Metfone C-League games failed to lighten the mood at Olympic Stadium after Saturday's loss of life, when Prek Pra striker Wilson Mene collapsed and died during their match with Preah Khan. Everyone was in a fairly sombre mood and the games reflected that. Phnom Penh Crown just about overcame Kirivong but it was far from a classic. Keo Sokngorn grabbed the only goal of the game on 38 minutes. In the 2nd game, Wat Phnom huffed and puffed but had no cutting edge and that allowed Chhma Khmao to take full advantage to register their first goal, their first win and their first points of their debut season in the C-League. The relief was etched over the faces of all of the Black Cats from Svay Rieng province. The biggest smile belonged to their skipper Pao Phearith, who struck a thunderbolt into the top right-hand corner after half an hour that settled the destination of the points. Well done the Black Cats. More on the games later.
