The
Phnom Penh Crown Academy U-16s team continued their build-up preparation for the
Asia Champions Trophy which begins in China on 17 May, with a
behind-closed-doors friendly with the Asia Euro University C-League team yesterday afternoon. The match was played at RSN Stadium and ended 3-3. Yeu
Muslim gave the Academy the lead in the first of three 30-minute
periods. AEU pulled level and went into a 3-1 lead before two goals from
Chhuot Senteang in the final period brought Crown level at the final
whistle.
Two Crown players missing from the squad for
the recent game with NagaCorp were Newton Katanha and Jeong
Ho Kim. Newton, known to all as Ben, has left the club to return to his
home country Zimbabwe, after scoring 3 goals in the 4 matches in which he featured. His brilliant overhead/scissor-kick
against Boeung Ket will be one we remember for a long while. Head coach
Sam Schweingruber said; "Ben is a true professional with lots of
experience and great qualities. He had a very good record with us - 3
goals in 4 games. We regret that for personal reasons he has left us so
early and gone back home to be re-united with wife and his 2 daughters." Jeong Ho Kim
was absent from the team against Naga after the club heard on Thursday
that his 1-match suspension, following his 2 yellows/red card against
TriAsia, had been increased to 4 matches. There was no reason given and the club are going to appeal this unexpected
and arbitrary decision.
