Result: PPCFC 1 Western Uni 0 (Friendly).
Sou Yaty started his first game in Phnom Penh Crown colours this afternoon, in a practice match against Western Uni and immediately showed why he's the number 1 goalkeeper in the country. Even though he wore the injured Yok Ary's no 22 jersey! The first half of the match at RSN Stadium belonged to Crown, they dominated. In the first minute Khim Borey's grounder was held by the keeper and then Leng Makara ballooned an easy chance over the cross-bar after Borey broke into the box and presented him with a guilt-edged opportunity. On 7 minutes, Borey's 20-yard dipping free kick was pushed out by the Western keeper only for George Bisan to follow up and he tapped the ball home for the opening goal. Borey surged into the box again but Ngoy Srin's shot was charged down, and Borey's header, from Makara's cross, went two feet wide. Crown's final chance of the half came when Borey's drive was pushed into the air and caught at the second attempt. Five minutes after the break and Yaty was called into action for the first time, finger-tipping a low drive around the post. Soon after Liam Hutchinson stepped up to whistle a 25-yard free kick inches over the cross bar. Sos Suhana was on the pitch for a couple of minutes before he sidestepped a defender and saw his near post shot beaten away by the keeper. Long Boran flashed a volley close before Bin Thierry's 25-yard effort was as close as Hutchinson's minutes earlier. Ten minutes from time, Yaty kept the scoreline in his side's favour with a diving save as plucky Western revived, while Neou Sosela fired the game's final chance wide of the target at the other end. Crown gave another try-out to Nigerian trialist Ugochukwu Obi Moneke, who played for San Siro in last week's friendly.
